Melbury Osmond has a population of approximately 130, with about 20 children less than 18 years. The demographic is weighted towards the over 60’s. There is a high proportion of private rental accommodation, mostly owned by the Ilchester Estate.
As in many other villages, the social fabric of Melbury Osmond consists of a number of overlapping circles, of which the church is one. Others include the Village Hall Committee and Parish Council, the Garden Club, the W.I., the Tennis Club and boules players, the Friends of St Osmund’s and the Hug a Baby knitting circle.
As well as the usual range of services, we have Compline once a month, led by a rota of lay people. We have been specifically requested by the PCC to note the popularity of the Book of Common Prayer with many of our regular congregants, though Common Worship is used once a month, and ‘specials’ are usually in contemporary language.
