Melbury Osmond (with Melbury Sampford) has a population of approximately 190, of whom about 34% are aged 65 + and about 14% aged 15 or younger. There is a high proportion of private rental accommodation, mostly owned by the Ilchester Estate.

As in many other villages, the social fabric of Melbury Osmond consists of a number of overlapping circles, of which the church is one. Others include the Village Hall Committee and Parish Council, the Garden Club, the Tennis Club and the boules players.

The Book of Common Prayer is popular with many of our regular congregants, but Common Worship is used once a month, and ‘specials’ are usually in contemporary language.
